Day 1: South of France Map: Marseille
Begin day one of your Marseille sailing trip by indulging in breakfast at a waterfront café overlooking Vieux Port. Explore the historic landmarks, including Fort Saint-Jean and Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde, before wandering through lively markets, where vendors sell an array of fresh produce, local crafts, and souvenirs.
Enjoy a seafood lunch at Vallon des Auffes, a charming fishing village. Before returning to your sailboat as the sun sets, take in the beauty of Marseille and ready for an evening of relaxation and anticipation for the adventures ahead.🌊
Day 2: South of France Map: From Marseille to Calenques de Marseille 8NM l 1HR 15MIN
It’s time to cast off and hoist the mainsail for your first day at sea!⛵
You’ll sail into Marseille harbour before skirting the magnificent Parc national des Calanques. This is a great spot to anchor for the first time of your sailing trip and enjoy lunch in this stunning setting.
Your navigation continues to the Calanque of Port-Miou (the only one in the commune of Cassis). Take advantage of this stop to swim in the heart of this bucolic landscape.
Day 3: South of France Map: From Calenques de Marseille to Sanary-sur-Mer 18NM l 3HRS
Head east from Calenques de Marseille en route to Sanary-sur-Mer. On your way you’ll pass the well known rock to sailors, ‘Bec de l’Aigle’ (a rocky cape reminiscent of an eagle’s head). 🦅
You’ll then land in Sanary-sur-Mer, where you can explore the town before discovering Ile des Embiez off the coast!
Day 4: South of France Map: From Sanary-sur-Mer to Port-Cros 26NM l 4HRS 20MIN
After a final swim, weigh anchor for the islands of Hyéres, also known as the Îles d’Or. You’ll discover Cap Sicié and it’s easily recognisable forest.
You can then enjoy lunch in the delightful Baie des Langoustiers, located to the west of Porquerolles island. Furthermore, you’ll continue your tour of the Îles d’Or, stopping off at Port-Cros where you can visit Port-Cros National Park, renowned for its vibrant marine life and underwater treasures.
Enjoy snorkelling and diving in the waters, encountering colourful fish, sea turtles, and majestic corals.🤿
Day 5: South of France Map: From Port-Cros to Porquerolles 6NM l 1HR
This morning, you’ll head west to Cap Bénat. After lunch, you’ll set sail for the largest of the Hyéres islands, Porquerolles.
Enjoy the picturesque village, where there are a plethora of restaurants for you to dine in. Rent a bicycle and pedal through the picturesque landscapes, visiting pristine beaches like Plage Notre-Dame and Plage de la Courtade.🏖️
Hike along scenic trails, discovering the island’s rich flora and fauna, including the iconic Fort Sainte Agathe. Otherwise, if you prefer, you can anchor along the coast.
Day 6 and 7: South of France Map: From Porquerolles to Port du Frioul 45NM l 7HRS 30MIN
The return journey of your Marseille sailing holiday has begun! Perhaps, enjoy a well-deserved nap in the forward cockpit for the first leg of your journey.
You’ll make a stopover at the Port of Frioul, where you can explore the historic Château d’If, immortalized in Alexandre Dumas’ “The Count of Monte Cristo” before returning to port for your final night.
Day 8: South of France Map: From Port du Frioul to Marseille 3NM l 30MIN
Upon arriving back in Marseille, delve into the city’s rich cultural heritage. Visit attractions such as the historic Vieux Port, the bustling markets of Le Panier district, and the impressive Marseille Cathedral.
