Booking a holiday always carries a certain risk, which you can minimise with the right travel insurance. To ensure that your holiday remains a great success even in unforeseen circumstances, it’s important to familiarize yourself with the available insurances before departure. You can read this basic boat insurance blog to familiarize yourself with our charter insurances and travel insurance, so you can travel worry-free.
The general insurance via Click&Boat
At Click&Boat, when you book, you can choose between no additional insurance and insurance through our partner Allianz/Mondial Assistance. If you choose not to take out additional insurance, the owner’s liability insurance can still cover your boat. For damages beyond your own boat, you as the lessee are liable.
You can add insurance through our partner up to 10 days after your booking. You have two options:
- Assistance and repatriation: medical care and repatriation
- Cancellation, assistance, and repatriation: medical care, repatriation, and cancellation under various conditions
In case of illness before the trip
It can happen quickly that you or a member of your crew falls ill before departure and cannot proceed with the trip. Click&Boat’s assistance and repatriation insurance covers this problem!
- Cancellation is possible in case of illness before the trip.
- The insurance covers illness/death of a crew member or family member.
- A medical certificate is required for cancellation.
In case of illness during the trip
Not only before, but also during your journey, it can happen that you need to interrupt your trip due to illness or an accident, or in the worst case, terminate it prematurely. In this case too, you don’t need to worry, as our assistance and repatriation insurance covers both medical care in the holiday country and repatriation to your home country.
- The insurance covers all crew members.
- Medical care in case of accident or illness in the holiday country (up to max. €15,000)
- If necessary, repatriation to your home country is organised without a cost limit.
In case of damage
Unfortunately, there is always a risk of damaging your own boat, another boat, harbour facilities, or third parties while manoeuvring a boat. It’s important to have appropriate insurance cover for this case, as costs can escalate quickly.
Boat liability insurance
Boat liability insurance covers personal, property, and financial damages resulting from ownership and use of the boat.
- The boat owner takes out this insurance. Ask the boat owner directly which insurance applies to the specific boat.
Boat hull insurance
Boat hull insurance covers damage to the owned or chartered boat. There are two types:
- Partial hull insurance: covers innocent damage (storm, lightning, theft, etc.)
- Comprehensive hull insurance: covers own fault and fault by third parties.
Deposit insurance
Charter deposit insurance protects against loss of the security deposit due to damage. Click&Boat offers charter deposit insurances that you can add when booking.
When is cancellation free of charge?
Although unfortunate, it may happen that you cannot make your trip for various reasons. It’s important to know under which circumstances you can cancel without any problems.
Cancellation by the lessor
If the lessor cancels the booking for personal or technical reasons, you as the lessee receive 100% of your payment back, including service fees. Furthermore, we do our best to find a new boat for your holiday!
Cancellation by the lessee
If you booked without cancellation, assistance, and repatriation insurance, the lessor’s cancellation conditions apply:
- Flexible: Full refund of the paid price up to 24 hours before the booking starts
- Average: 70% refund up to 10 days before the booking starts
- Strict: 60% refund up to 30 days before the booking starts
- Customized: Cancellation conditions of professional lessors
Note that service fees collected by Click&Boat are not refunded upon cancellation.
If you cancel with cancellation, assistance, and repatriation insurance, you receive a full refund of the price in the following cases:
- Illness or accident of a crew member or family member (a medical certificate is required)
- Death of a member of the travel group or family member
- If the insured finds a job that prevents them from making the trip. However, they must have been registered with a labour office.
- Study-related:
- If the insured unexpectedly has to retake an exam
- If the insured finds a paid internship that prevents them from making the trip
- Significant damage (fire, water damage, burglary) to the home before or during the holiday, which requires the insured’s presence
- If your car which is intended to reach the departure port breaks down, is stolen, or burgled less than 2 days before the booking starts
The maximum refund is €6,500.
Cancellation due to weather conditions
At Click&Boat, with the Weather Guarantee booking, you can insure against bad weather during your outing. This insurance is only available for one-day bookings and allows you to cancel or change your booking at short notice in case of bad weather conditions.
Even without booking the Weather Guarantee, you can request cancellation from the lessor. If the lessor accepts the request, the charter price will be refunded. You will receive a voucher valid for 3 months (90 days) for the paid commission and service fees.
